You are going on a trip soon and you are going to take out a travel insurance contract . Here are the essential guarantees that this insurance must include.

Health guarantees

First of all, the first guarantee obviously concerns medical expenses. Your contract must therefore cover emergencies, but also all illnesses that may occur on a daily basis. This insurance must therefore cover the costs of general practitioners and specialists, pharmacy, analyzes, x-rays, etc.

However, any insurance contract contains exclusions and these must be clearly stated in the information notice. For example, chronic illnesses and illnesses prior to taking out the contract will not be covered, as well as dental care (except in the event of an emergency or accident).

It may be useful to recall here the definition of some terms commonly used in travel insurance contracts:

Guarantee  limit: It is for a claim, the maximum sum that the company undertakes to cover.

First euro  : This means that the insurance company is the only insurer, and does not supplement social security.

Assistance guarantees are also essential guarantees. Here are the main ones:

Repatriation assistance  : If you are sick or injured, following a covered event, and if there is no medical infrastructure on site that can take care of you, the insurance company will organize your repatriation. With the agreement of the company's medical adviser, this repatriation can be done either to the nearest adapted hospital or to the hospital closest to you.

In the event of death, the repatriation of the body is taken care of from the place of bottling, to the airport closest to your home.

Presence in the event of hospitalization : If you are hospitalized for a period of more than six days, with a travel insurance contract such as Globe Traveler for ACS-ami insurance ( for example) , the company will pay for the transport of a member of your family to get to your bedside in hospital.

Premature return  : If you have to interrupt your trip in the event of the death of a member of your immediate family, the company will cover your additional transport costs.

Legal assistance abroad : If you are prosecuted for unintentional infringement of the legislation of the foreign country in which you are staying, the company covers up to € 3,000 for example, for our Globe Partner contract, the fees of representatives of the justice that you have sponsored.

Civil liability

Civil liability is the obligation to take charge of damage caused to others by their fault. Guarantee obviously essential. Let's take an example: If while watering the flowers on your balcony, you drop a flowerpot on the head of a lady walking on the sidewalk, that lady has every chance of suing you if you are not well insured.

However, the guarantee offered to you remains a private life liability. It cannot in any case supplant professional, rental or automobile civil liability.

Other guarantees

Cancellation and baggage guarantees are also classic but important guarantees.

Cancellation guarantee  : This guarantee takes effect on the day the contract is signed and ends on the day of your departure. If, for a reason included in the contract, you are ultimately unable to make your trip, you will be reimbursed for your travel expenses, on the one hand by the travel agency which applies its reimbursement according to a declining table, and on the other hand by the insurance company which will come up to 100% in addition to this first reimbursement. 

Luggage coverage  : Your luggage and personal effects are insured during your return flight, when they are the responsibility of the transport company. This guarantee covers the theft, loss and total or partial destruction of baggage. This guarantee has a ceiling to be consulted in the table of guarantees. Here too, the reimbursement of the company comes in addition to the reimbursement made by the airline.
