Mercedes are gearing up for another successful year and claiming their 9th consecutive constructors' title in the 2022 Formula 1 Championship. The Silver Arrows have performed well in pre-season testing and have adapted to new regulations and their challenges .

Among those preparing will be rookie pilot George Russel . Russell will link up with Lewis Hamilton after the Briton replaced Alfa Romeo-bound Valtteri Bottas . Russell, Mercedes Junior driver since 2017 joins the Brackley-based team after spending 3 years with Williams.

George has already shown promising signs by setting the second-fastest lap time at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the first pre-season test in Barcelona. He covered over 200 laps over the 3 days and looks like he will be in contention for the title.

George Russell will be promoted to the front of the grid after struggling at the back for three seasons with Williams. When asked whether it was with the promotion to Mercedes he is now ambitious to fight for the title, Russell denied and said his goal had always been the same.

Russell states “It's not even something I think about, to be honest. I think it's pretty amazing how the minds of racing drivers work, that when you put the helmet on, it doesn't matter if you're fighting for the win, or for me for the past few years – fighting at the back of the grid. You always come in with exactly the same mindset.

He added , “I had the best example of that in Bahrain when I raced for Mercedes. For me, it was just another race. when we [were] in front or starting from the front row, the approach is the same, the mindset is the same, the work you put into the event after the event is exactly the same. So work on the process, and deal with everything afterwards.

Russell replaced Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix after Hamiton tested positive for CoVid-19. He could have scored a podium if not a victory in his first race with Mercedes, but he couldn't due to a missed pit stop.
