Oppo recently made official the Find X5 series in China and global markets, which comes with ColorOS 12. The company's Android 12-based ColorOS 12 skin now has a cool feature, which will allow users to detect hidden cameras in a play. Sound interesting? Here's how it will work.

Launch Oppo hidden camera detection app

Oppo (via a Weibo post) has revealed the new ColorOS 12 feature. This is currently available for Chinese units of the Find X5 and Find X5 Pro . However, Oppo has confirmed to bring it to more devices in the coming weeks.

The feature works through a dedicated app and allows users to detect and spot Wi-Fi spy cameras that might be hidden in a private room or area. According to recent reports, Oppo has released a new hidden camera detection app on its digital Oppo App Market.

How it works?

As for how the hidden camera detection app works, it requires ColorOS 12.1 to work on Find X5 or X5 Pro . This is not a problem as both of these devices run the latest version of the operating system out of the box. However, when Oppo releases the app for several of its devices, users will need to upgrade to ColorOS 12.1 to access the feature.

So, once you install the hidden camera detector app on your supported device, the app will ask users to turn off their Wi-Fi and access point to detect the Wi-Fi signals from the or hidden cameras . Additionally, it asks users to turn off the lights in the room, presumably to detect the infrared (IR) light that many Wi-Fi cameras use for night vision.

Once a hidden camera is detected, the app will help users spot it using hot and cold signals . This means that users will know when they are near (or far) from a spy camera and will search for it in possible hiding places. This nifty spy camera detector app could be very useful in situations where you don't feel safe in a hotel room or in the locker rooms of retail stores.

Currently, it is unknown when Oppo plans to launch the app in global markets. So, stay tuned for more updates and let us know your thoughts on Oppo's hidden camera detection app in the comments below.
