NCT ( Hangul: 엔시 티, RR : Ensiti ) is a South Korean K-pop boy band , formed fromby SM Entertainment . The group currently consists of twenty-three members: Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Kun, Doyoung, Ten , Jaehyun, Winwin , Jungwoo, Lucas , Mark, Xiaojun, Hendery, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan , Jaemin, Yangyang, Shotaro , Sungchan, Chenle and Jisung
Their name follows the Hallyu project and means “ Neo Culture Technology ” , a term coined by Lee Soo-man , founder of SM Entertainment , who describes this concept as a group having an unlimited number of members .
NCT is composed of ten members of Korean nationality, five Chinese members , one Macanese member , one Hong Kong member , one Thai member , one American member , two Japanese members , one German-Taiwanese member and one Canadian member . Their ages range from late teens to mid-twenties.
The group is currently divided into four sub-units that have been unveiled over time since 2016: NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV .
The first revealed subunit of the group is NCT U. It is a unit called, " rotational " ( "of rotation" ), meaning that the members are different according to the concept/comeback. NCT is therefore debuting under NCT U, thewith its digital double single , The 7th Sense and Without You 8 . The first members revealed are Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, and Mark.
This was followed by the second sub-unit, NCT 127. This sub-unit takes its name from the geographical coordinates of the city of Seoul, located at the 127th meridian. the, NCT 127 releases its first title, Fire Truck 9 . This sub-unit is the one with the most members. From 2016 to 2018, it has 10, from 2019 it has 9, following the departure of Winwin. Despite this exception, members can be added to this unit, but none can be removed.
The third sub-unit, NCT Dream, consisting of the members below 20 years old ( Korean age ), debuted onwith the digital single, Chewing Gum . This sub-unit previously followed a graduation system: at twenty ( Korean age ) members graduate and must leave NCT Dream to join another sub-unit, but this system was discontinued in 2020 11 . So NCT Dream becomes a fixed unit like NCT 127, members can be added to it, but none can be removed. This unit is made up of seven members.
Finally, the group introduced its fourth sub-unit, WayV ( Chinese : 威神V, pinyin : Wēi Shén V ) based in China , under the label Label V. WayV stands for "We are your vision" and is the only unit not not possessing the word 'NCT' in its name, due to political restrictions between South Korea and China . However, it is considered the Chinese unit of NCT, bringing together members of Chinese origin. This unit starts onfeaturing and the single album The Vision and its hit song Regular, the Chinese version of the song of the same name, first performed by NCT 127. This unit, also fixed, is made up of seven members.
More recently, the, the NCT 2020 project , which follows the NCT 2018 project, is launched, with the release of a second album, titled NCT Resonance Pt. 1 . This project includes all units of the group as well as two new members, Shotaro and Sungchan .
