Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the British government earlier today amid the Ukrainian-Russian crisis that has been going on for a few days. The Russian businessman had owned the English club since 2003 and played a crucial role in Chelsea's rise to the top.

Earlier this week, Abramovich announced he was ready to sell Chelsea after learning the businessman had links to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The UK government announced in its latest sanctions that Roman Abramovich had had his assets frozen in the UK and a travel ban had been imposed on the 55-year-old.

This puts Chelsea in big trouble as the Blues are now prohibited from offering players or staff a new contract, carrying out official transfer business, selling new tickets for any game in any of their teams, including the women's team and the junior teams, to sell merchandise. for fans, no stadium redevelopment, spending over £500,000 on security and stewardship per home game and over £20,000 on spending at away games.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government earlier today after it was reported the 55-year-old had links to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This has put a big dent in the club's long and short term goals, with important players like Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger set to leave the club.

The biggest loss for Chelsea will be if Antonio Rudiger leaves the club. The 29-year-old has been a key member of the Blues and relaunched his career at Chelsea after Thomas Tuchel took over. Rudiger joined Chelsea from AS Roma in the summer of 2017 and hasn't had the best of starts at the English club.

Rudiger was very inconsistent in his early years after arriving, but since Thomas Tuchel took charge, the 29-year-old has quickly transformed into one of the best defenders in the world. Antonio Rudiger's contract expires this summer and Chelsea wanted to extend his contract but it looks very difficult after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government earlier today.

Antonio Rudiger is nearing 200 appearances for the Blues and has played a major role in helping them win the FA Cup, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup of FIFA. The German international is linked with Manchester United, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

'Chelsea are in limbo' - Renowned journalist Kaveh Solhekol delivers his verdict on the club's future:

Renowned English journalist Kaveh Solhekol has delivered an honest and stark verdict on Chelsea after the club were in search of a new owner amid the Ukraine-Russia war. The Sky Sports reporter has explained how Chelsea will suffer and what problems the club could face.

Kaveh Solhekol said: “The sale is suspended for the moment. Roman Abramovich will not be able to sell Chelsea. Since the beginning of this process, he has been on his back, he has not controlled this situation – it is the government that has. He proposed the plan to hand over control but not ownership of the club to the trustees of the Chelsea Foundation.

The Sky Sports reporter added,  "It didn't work out so he released a statement saying he wanted to sell the club and all proceeds would go to a new foundation he would set up to help all the victims of the war in Ukraine. But Chelsea are considered by the government to be a cultural asset, which has earned them a licence. They can continue to operate and play the devices.

“  They are in limbo. There are many things they cannot do. They can continue to pay their players, but they won't be able to bring in new signings. They can't sell tickets for games, so only season ticket holders can go. They will not be able to make money from the merchandise. They will be able to continue paying their players. Things are very uncertain in the long term,” says Kaveh Solhekol.
